Gladys Shollei: Bishops Should Counsel the President in private

Gladys Shollei has come out strongly in defense of President William Ruto, countering the recent criticisms by Catholic bishops. The bishops, through the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), had raised a series of serious concerns, highlighting issues like rampant corruption, human rights abuses, abductions, and a “culture of lies” in the government. They emphasized that growing dishonesty among politicians has led to public mistrust and called for urgent action to address the socioeconomic and governance crises facing Kenya.

Shollei, who serves as the Uasin Gishu Woman Representative, dismissed these accusations as misrepresentative and argued that President Ruto’s administration is committed to transformative policies aimed at uplifting the welfare of Kenyans. She pointed out the strides made by the government in areas such as education reform and economic development. Additionally, Shollei criticized the bishops for what she perceives as selective engagement, urging them to support national development rather than castigate leaders.

This exchange underscores the deepening debate over governance and accountability in Kenya, with different perspectives on the administration’s performance being brought to the forefront.
